Food insecurity is the world’s number one health risk. We have all experienced hunger. Not all of us have experienced food insecurity.
Hunger is the physical sensation of needing food. Food insecurity is the circumstance of not having reliable access to it. These conditions don’t discriminate. They affect people of all ages, races, religious beliefs, and genders. They happen everywhere, including Cook County, IL, where one in seven people will experience food insecurity this year.
We all know it’s not enough to be compassionate about issues like this: we have to act!
Volunteers will work together as an assembly line to create meals from bulk ingredients. As a team, you will create meal bags that include 6 servings of nutritious meals to be distributed to local Chicago organizations. A packing team of 10 volunteers can create about 2,000 meals per hour!
Join us on October 6, 2019 from 1 – 3 PM at the Women of Color Beyond Belief Conference in Chicago, Illinois to participate!
We also offer childcare at the event. Please submit your request now to take advantage of this service!
