The heart of the work of Black Nonbelievers is resistance.

The heart of the work of Black Nonbelievers is resistance.

Resistance against religious privilege, as well as other systemic forms of injustice. Especially those which affect the Black community the most.

Black Lives have ALWAYS mattered to US. In addition to the community support we provide for those who need it, we have always advocated openly for social change, particularly within our communities.

The recent murders of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd at the hands of law enforcement (and former) are all too horrifically familiar to us, as they are now part of a long and ugly history of racism and White Supremacy. Which is followed with no accountability for the lives lost. And far too often, we have been advised to pray, while we remain prey.

I am tired. WE ARE TIRED. Our community has been fighting this fight for too long.

Now is the time to not only speak out against these injustices, it is time to DO SOMETHING.

There are several organizations that support Black communities – including ours.

Donations to Black Nonbelievers are tax-deductible and continue to support our members who are secular and applying critical thought, and evidence-based approaches to our lives.

Also, do consider supporting Community Movement Builders, a Black economic and environmental justice organization. Based in Atlanta, CMB also has chapters across the country. And there are atheists within their leadership – adding to a long line of Black atheists, humanists, and freethinkers who have made important contributions to society.

Whether you are joining in the protests or supporting behind the scenes – you CAN make a difference.

And whatever you do, PLEASE make sure you are following the necessary safety and social distancing guidelines, especially if you are protesting.

Help us form better communities, better structures, and a better future.

In the immortal words of Chuck D (from Public Enemy) “We got to fight the powers that be!!!”
