Hello Everyone!!!
Wow – what a year this has been for us all. From dealing with a worldwide pandemic to a less than competent Presidential administration – 2020 has been challenging!
However, there have been some amazing moments and changes, especially in the way many are waking up to the realities of racial and economic injustice. And the role that religion (Christianity in particular) plays in these atrocities has compelled many to action, education, and support for progress and change.
I am confident that 2021 will be a much better year for us all, especially as we continue to exercise our power as people!
Today is #GivingTuesday, and I would like to ask for your support for Black Nonbelievers.
Like many organizations, we have adjusted to more of a virtual community this year. Because we want you all to stay safe. But we have never stopped working!
With your support, I am happy to share some of our accomplishments in 2020:
· “Atheism and Humanism across the African Diaspora” – along with the Association of Black Humanists (London, UK)
· “Black Family Discussion” on Christianity and White Supremacy – co-sponsored by the Stiefel Freethought Foundation
· “Legacy” speaker series – presented by our Washington, D.C. affiliate, co-sponsored by the American Humanist Association
· “True Liberation” billboard campaign – co-sponsored by the Stiefel Freethought Foundation
· Zora Neale Hurston Scholarship – co-sponsored by the Secular Student Alliance
We would also like to congratulate our Charlotte affiliate leader Tina Marshall on receiving Foundation Beyond Belief’s Heart of Humanism award, and I am proud to be a recipient of the Harvard Humanist of the Year Award for 2020. It is always great when hard work is appreciated!!!
And with our 10th Anniversary approaching in January, we are taking a moment to bask and breathe during this turbulent year. It’s time to celebrate while we continue to move forward!
These are several ways that you can support Black Nonbelievers throughout the year. We hope that you will consider one or more:
Also, please join us for our upcoming National events in 2021. Safety and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
Please continue to stay healthy, safe, and vigilant. And thank once again for ALL your support!!!
Sincerely,
Mandisa Thomas
