Why This Giving Tuesday Matters Now More Than Ever for BN.

Greetings!

You have undoubtedly seen many asks for donations from nonprofit organizations for Giving Tuesday, and at BN, we are doing the same. The end of year fundraising season is upon is all, and while any time is a good time to donate, this is the time that is most crucial for our ongoing work.

But I want to share why giving to BN is vital.

This summer, I connected with a Black woman led philanthropy organization, in an attempt to grow with their network. They held a very nice event in Atlanta, and their mission to help grassroots groups that support marginalized communities was very clear. However, what became even more clear was how many religious organizations they work with, and while they seemed receptive to my pitch about BN’s work, ultimately, we were not added to their directory.

I am not say that this is strictly because we are a nonreligious organization. However, as an unapologetically organization focused on nonreligious voices, we still face an uphill battle when it comes to engaging our fellow Black communities, and to receive the necessary funding for our work. But I am not discouraged, because the support that we DO receive makes a huge difference. And that is thanks to all of you.

In borrowing some of their verbiage (because it IS good), when you give to grassroots organizations, particularly Black, Black woman led, and Black atheist led, you’re not just making a donation:

– You’re investing in equity.
– You’re investing in solutions shaped by lived experience.
– You’re investing in a future where we can thrive.

At Black Nonbelievers, we are approaching our 15th year in existence. That is 15 years of activism, advocacy, care, data, education, and liberation for Blacks and allies living free from religious belief and the stigma that comes with it. And that continues to need and deserve your support.

So PLEASE make your tax deductible contribution on this very important day, and for this important time of the year. And as always, we thank you, because you are appreciated.

Sincerely,
