This past weekend, in my role as a Humanist Celebrant, I had the honor of officiating the wedding for longtime collaborator, author and AHA Board President Candace Gorham, and BN Board Secretary Deana Williams.
Their love story began when they met at the 2021 Women of Color Beyond Belief Conference, which was executive produced and run by Black Nonbelievers.
I am happy to share this news (with their kind permission) because their union is a result of the hard work that we place into community building, connections, and support. And this is no small matter, because our members know that they have access to resources for very important moments in their lives – without the religious dogma with which they are often associated.
Also, because the rights of LGBTQ+, nonreligious, POC and other marginalized folks are under attack, we must continue to fight for and support each other. And we can do so by showing how we honor joy, love, and solidarity – something that the other side wants to take away.
This is why, as this busy summer comes to a close, we need your help.
