Greetings,
This past week, Cynthia (our ChiTown affiliate leader) and I participated in the annual member meeting for the Secular Coalition for America. We also participated in their annual Lobby Day, where we spoke with our State representatives, specifically asking them to oppose “school choice” legislation, the likes of which will ultimately disparage low income residents and public school education.
During our visit, we visited the iconic Black Lives Matter plaza, which is now being removed and renamed under duress from lawmakers. We witnessed firsthand the beginning of the deconstruction, while also being interviewed on the spot by some independent journalists who were on the scene.
It is shameful that we are now in an administration that seeks to roll back progress and silence the voices of marginalized people. But as many in the Washington, D.C. area are not giving up, neither are we.
Black Nonbelievers was created BECAUSE Black Lives Matter. The voices of the nonreligious are still rising, and that includes Black communities. And we support ALL, especially our LGBTQ+ members. That has always been in our mission, and it will not change.
We are one week away from our Revival of Reason. Not only will we featuring speakers and entertainment, we will be taking on the challenge of the next four years, and what we can do. Please be sure to join us in person or online, if you have not already registered.
